Office 2007: Why you shouldn't buy from a big box store.

It's easy to walk into a store and pick up the retail version of Office 2007 or take the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) version when you buy a new computer, but there are some big reasons to avoid it – Microsoft's Open License, Microsoft's volume licensing for businesses with 5 to 250 computers, has three major advantages for businesses:

1. It costs less. Open License provides discounts off the retail price of the software.
2. It's faster. Open License software takes less time to install because it uses one authorization number and the installation can be copied from one computer to another. So, it's also more efficient in labor.
3. It's made for business. Business computers are replaced more often than home computers and with Open License you can transfer the license off an old computer and on to a new machine. You cannot do this with OEM licenses.
